CSV to JSON Converter
Turn a CSV with a header row into an array of objects, or go the other way. Quoted fields and embedded commas are handled correctly.
Alice,95
Bob,87
{"name":"Alice","score":"95"},
{"name":"Bob","score":"87"}
]
How the conversion works
The first row becomes the object keys; every row after it becomes one object in the array. Fields wrapped in double quotes are parsed as single values even when they contain commas, which is the part naive split-on-comma converters get wrong — and the reason a converted address column so often ends up shifted one field to the left.
Pretty Print controls indentation. Auto-trim strips leading and trailing whitespace from each value, which is almost always what you want from a spreadsheet export but is worth turning off if your data has meaningful padding.
Why this one is safe for real data
CSV exports are usually the most sensitive file a team handles: customer lists, order histories, payroll extracts, patient identifiers. Pasting one into a converter that posts to a server means that data now exists on infrastructure you do not control, under a retention policy you have not read. Under GDPR that is a processing event involving a third party, whatever the tool's marketing says.
This converter is plain JavaScript running in the page you are looking at. Open DevTools, switch to the Network tab, and convert something — nothing appears. That is the whole argument, and it takes four seconds to check.
Common questions
Does it handle commas inside quoted fields?
Yes. Fields wrapped in double quotes are parsed as one value even when they contain commas, and doubled quotes inside a field are read as a literal quote character.
Can it convert JSON back to CSV?
Yes — use the JSON to CSV button. The input must be an array of flat objects; nested objects need flattening first.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser. There is no server endpoint to send it to, and you can confirm that in the DevTools Network tab.
