Slug Generator

Convert a title into a clean, readable URL slug. Accents are folded, punctuation dropped, spacing normalised.

Input:
My Blog Post Title! (2025)
Slug output:
my-blog-post-title-2025
Verify it yourself. Open DevTools (F12), switch to the Network tab and use the tool. Nothing appears — the readout in the header counts first-party requests made since this page loaded, and using a tool makes none.

What makes a good slug

Short, lowercase, hyphen-separated, and readable without the page title next to it. Hyphens rather than underscores, because search engines have long treated the hyphen as a word separator and the underscore as a joiner. Drop dates and numbers unless they are genuinely part of the identity of the page — /pricing ages better than /pricing-2025, and a slug you have to change later costs you a redirect.

Accents and non-Latin characters

Accented characters are folded to their closest ASCII equivalent, so Café Münchén becomes cafe-munchen. This is the safe default: percent-encoded URLs are legal but render as unreadable escape sequences when copied into plain-text contexts, and they break more link parsers than you would expect.

Common questions

Hyphens or underscores?

Hyphens. Search engines treat a hyphen as a word separator and an underscore as a joiner, so under_scored words can be read as one term.

What happens to accented characters?

They are folded to the nearest ASCII letter — é becomes e, ü becomes u — which keeps the slug readable everywhere.

Should I include the date in a slug?

Only if the date is part of the page's identity. Otherwise it makes the URL look stale and forces a redirect when you update the content.
